What are Youth Action Grants?
Youth Action Grants give groups of young people up to $2,500 to make their ideas happen! Have you always wished your school had a leadership camp? Do you think your community could use a new mural? Would you like to raise awareness about youth mental health? Apply for a Youth Action Grant.
Youth Action is United Way Ottawa’s youth engagement program. The program is primarily run for youth by youth. All applications must be filled out by young people between the ages of 13 and 19. Our Youth Action Panel, a group of young people between the ages of 13 and 19, will then review the applications.
Who can apply?
Youth between the ages of 13 and 19 can apply for a Youth Action Grant. You need to have a group of at least three people to apply.
Why apply for a Youth Action Grant?
Some people say that youth are the leaders of tomorrow. We believe that youth are leaders today and they make change happen! If you’ve always been itching to help your community, this is your chance. Youth Action Grants will give you the funds that you need to take your project from an idea to a reality!
Youth Action projects are a great way of gaining experience and earning volunteer hours.
How to apply for a Youth Action Grant
It’s pretty easy to apply for a Youth Action Grant. All you need to do is fill out an application. To make sure you have the best chance of receiving a grant, please follow these steps.
- Come up with an idea to make change happen in the community.
- Get a group of friends together to help you with your project.
- Find a mentor who can help you make change happen.
- Fill out the Youth Action application form.
- Have your mentor review your application.
- Mail or hand-deliver your application package before the deadline. Please be sure to leave enough time for the mail system to deliver the application.
- Wait to find out if you received funding!

Youth Action Panel
The Youth Action Panel is a group of young people aged 13 to 19, whose primary responsibility is to review the Youth Action applications. Members of the Youth Action Panel meet on a monthly basis, more when applications are being reviewed, to discuss ways of promoting the Youth Action Grants and to review the grants. Youth Action Panel members are also called upon to help make decisions on youth programs or activities and to help out with different United Way events.
