With support from our local partners, we make a difference in our community. As a volunteer, you can be a part of this important work and help to build a better future for everyone.
We have many important and fulfilling volunteer opportunities that require a range of skills and experiences. Whether it’s fundraising, committee or investment work, as a volunteer you will help us enhance the work we are doing in our community. At the same time, you’ll meet new people and develop your skills.

Youth Action Panel Member
Purpose of Volunteer Position
A member of the Youth Action Panel is part of a team of youth volunteers who promote youth involvement in our schools and community. The panel’s goal is to raise awareness about the issues that affect youth by: helping United Way Ottawa plan fun activities; encouraging youth to become engaged in our community through the Youth Action Grant Program and enticing schools to participate in United Way Ottawa’s annual campaign. |
Responsibilities
- Promote Youth Action and youth involvement in your school and community
- Champion United Way Ottawa’s work and programs by encouraging youth participation in community events, programs and activities
- Review Youth Action project applications and interview selected applicants to decide which projects to fund and how much money each project will receive
- Advise United Way on program development and new initiatives that encourage youth to be involved in our community
- Contribute content to the Youth Action website and update the Youth Action Facebook page
- Help to recruit new Youth Action Panel members
- Act as an ambassador for United Way Ottawa in various capacities
- Attend meetings, training and events where applicable

Time Commitment
- Panel members are to fulfill a one-year commitment that starts in September and ends the following June.
- During the year, members meet for two hours once a month outside of school hours.
- Additional meetings are scheduled around the funding cycle and events; schedules will be determined and approved by the group.
- Available for a one-hour organizational orientation session

Qualifications
- Youth Action Panel members must be between the ages of 13-19 and live in the Ottawa area
- Be creative, energetic and enthusiastic
- Have an interest in your community
- Able to work well in a team and independently
- Responsible and dependable
- Must have access to e-mail
