LEARN ABOUT OUR COMMUNITY THROUGH OUR SEEING IS BELIEVING TOURS

There is no better way to understand Ottawa than through a Seeing Is Believing tour. Up close, you have an opportunity to see the work that United Way local partners are doing to make change happen in the community — and to discover the impact of your contribution on creating long-lasting social change. You’ll also increase your own awareness and knowledge of United Way — and how we are working together with people, supporters, organizations and others to make a difference in the lives of thousands of people.

Engage your employees, volunteers, family or friends in the community-building work being done across our city. Discover all there is to know about the work being done by United Way and our community partners.

We are offering pre-packaged one-, two- or three-hour tours year-round. Our tours are grouped in three areas that align with our focus areas. As well, we are offering combination tours.

  1. On our Growing Up Great tours, you’ll have a chance to see community work and partnerships in action, including: after-school homework clubs and recreational programs that are designed to help young people who are struggling in school improve their grades and social skills; a unique partnership program where children who live in family shelters learn about healthy eating and how to make nutritious lunches; and a local service that is giving young mothers a chance to complete their schooling while learning good parenting skills.
  2. On our Belonging to Community tours, you can choose from a range of packages that include a visit to an arts and literacy program for adults with developmental disabilities, a woodworking shop that provides employment for adults living in poverty, and a seniors’ centre that offers programs and services for seniors living alone.
  3. On our Turning Lives Around tours, you’ll have a chance to visit a young woman’s shelter, a treatment facility for youth struggling with addictions and a housing initiative that offers accommodation to low-income seniors. Many of these examples are a result of the work of United Way and our partners.
  4. On our Combination tours, you get a flavour of all three focus areas, with a visit to a program or service in each area.
