United Way Ottawa is now accepting nominations for the 2010 Community Builder of the Year Awards. For the past decade this award has been a way for United Way to recognize people, organizations, partnerships, community agencies and groups who work unassumingly and collaboratively to improve the lives of others and build a better and stronger community for all.
“We feel it is important to honour people and groups that step up and take responsibility for building the kind of community they want to see — one that everyone can be proud of,” said Dennis Jackson, Board Chair, United Way Ottawa. “We need to celebrate the dedication and hard work of the Community Builder of the Year Award recipients, not only to commend them but also to hold them up as inspiration for our community.”
Stephen Greenberg received the 2009 Community Builder of the Year Award for his long-standing commitment to United Way and many other organizations in our community — especially those supporting children and youth, such as after-school homework clubs. Organizations that received awards included Le Patro d’Ottawa, the Regional Geriatric Program of Eastern Ontario and the Ottawa Food Bank.
“We know it takes many different people and organizations to build a stronger and healthier community for all,” said Michael Allen, President and CEO, United Way Ottawa. “These recipients embody the type of community spirit that is essential in making a lasting impact in the lives of so many.”
United Way encourages people to submit their nominations for the 2010 Community Builder of the Year Awards before Thursday, March 18. The award presentations will take place at the annual gala at the Westin Hotel on Wednesday, May 19, 2010.
