October 10, 2008, Ottawa - United Way Ottawa is gearing up for two telephone campaigns that will run in mid October and November as part of the annual fundraising campaign. Charities, like United Way/Centraide, are exempt from the CRTC's national do-not-call list that came into force in September; however, United Way/Centraide is very conscious of the privacy of its donors and is committed to respecting donors' wishes relating to how they are contacted.
"Every year, as part of our annual 10-week fundraising campaign, we use a number of different ways to reach donors and other supporters in the community, including a telephone campaign," says Robert A. Morin, Chair, Retirees Committee, United Way/Centraide. "These calls will play an important role in helping us to reach our campaign goal and ultimately help us to build a stronger, healthier and safer community for us all."
United Way/Centraide has trained a number of volunteers from the community - many of whom are retirees - to phone its long-time and loyal donor households across the city to help achieve this year's campaign goal of $31 million.
This year's telephone campaign is taking place on October 15 and November 18, between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m.
