Discovering Talent - The business case for hiring people with disabilities

Adults with disabilities have skills and talents waiting to be tapped by employers, but in Ottawa only 43 per cent are employed.
United Way Ottawa, in conjunction with community partners, invites employers, business owners, HR professionals and employment service providers to a community business forum on March 31, 2010. At this forum, various speakers will present the business case for hiring people with disabilities.
The first two morning sessions will address key principles and provide insight into the economic value for developing inclusive workplace strategies. The remainder of the sessions will highlight best practices and offer resources that can be utilized for successfully hiring people with disabilities.
The Business Case: "The Return on Investment"
7:30 a.m. - 10:15 a.m.
Opening Keynote: "The Emerging Economic Giant," by Rich Donovan. Rich Donovan is a Managing Partner of IPS, a strategic consultancy working with business and government to drive results in business/disability. Rich worked as a Vice President at Merrill Lynch & Co in New York City. Rich founded LIME, a non-profit recruiting firm partnering with TD Bank, BMO, IBM Canada, B of A/Merrill Lynch, PepsiCo, Google, Target and Goldman Sachs. Rich ran for Canadian Parliament in 1997.Mr. Donovan holds a B.B.A from Schulich School of Business at York University and an M.B.A from Columbia Business School. Rich is an avid sailor.
