Ways to give

Monetary Donations

United Way donors play a powerful role in improving the quality of life of individuals in our community. In addition to regular donations, we offer various donor levels for those who can and want to invest in their community in a significant way:

  • Major Giving ($5,000 or more) – Donors can choose from a wide array of options, one of which is sure to meet their personal objectives. Major Gifts can be in the form of cash, real estate, securities or life insurance. We also honour these Major Gift Donors in our annual Honour Roll.
For information, please contact Michael Poliwoda at 613-228-6710

  • Leadership Giving ($1,000 or more) – This is the fastest-growing segment of our fundraising campaign, with Leadership Donors contributing $13.1 million to the 2009 annual campaign. It offers a way for individuals to give to the community while ensuring maximum impact for their charitable contribution. Leaders are invited to sponsored events that celebrate the impact of their investment in the lives of so many. We also honour these Leadership Donors in our annual Honour Roll.
For information, please contact Melissa Graham at 613-683-3786.

  • Friends ($500 - $999) – Donors who give between $500 and $999 are considered to be Friends of United Way. We value our friends and look forward to their gifts and the difference they make in our community.

  • Planned Giving – This type of charitable gift requires some planning before it can be made. Donors can choose from a wide array of options — one of which is sure to meet their personal objectives. Planned Gifts can be in the form of cash, real estate, securities or life insurance, and can be made during one’s lifetime or as part of a will). Donors who choose this option can ensure that their gift will continue to grow in perpetuity. The gift becomes part of our Planned Giving fund, which is wisely and professionally managed to ensure the capital’s real value is maintained. The fund’s annual investment income is used to support innovative and effective community programs. Those who participate in the Planned Giving program also benefit from both tax savings and estate planning perspectives.

Gifts in-Kind

Our Gifts in-Kind program matches identified needs for goods and services at community organizations with individuals and corporations who are able to help, offering a unique opportunity to participate in building a stronger community. The program responds to the role that product philanthropy and volunteerism plays in companies’ giving programs, regardless of their size. Receiving items through Gifts in-Kind enables community organizations to redirect their budgets and focus on providing improved services that directly benefit their clients. Examples of new or gently used goods include tickets to sports games and concerts, office supplies and equipment, computer hardware, furniture suitable for home or office use, appliances, recreational and sports equipment.
