United Way Ottawa 2011 Funding – Call for Proposal Information Sessions

United Way Ottawa would like to invite all interested non-profit organizations holding a registered charity number to our June series of information sessions, which are designed to help interested partners prepare for the open Call for Proposals (CFP), to be launched in September 2010 for the funding cycle that starts in April 2011.

Hosted by United Way Ottawa volunteers and staff specifically involved in each of the focus areas and/or priorities, these sessions will give you the opportunity to:

  • gain a deeper understanding of the objectives, strategies and opportunities around each focus area;
  • gain a deeper understanding of the processes and timelines for the open Call for Proposals; and
  • provide feedback and valuable input.

Sessions will be provided in English and in French.

Focus areas and priorities that will be part of the fall 2010 Funding Call for Proposals are:

FOCUS AREA: GROWING UP GREAT – Improve conditions for children and youth to reach their full potential
• Decrease the proportion of children not ready for school
• Increase opportunities for children and youth to be engaged outside of school hours

FOCUS AREA: BELONGING TO COMMUNITY – Improve opportunities for vulnerable people, including seniors, immigrants and people with disabilities, to contribute fully to their communities
• Increase opportunities for meaningful employment for people with disabilities
• Decrease the unemployment and underemployment rates for immigrants and new Canadians

• Enable vulnerable seniors to remain living in their own homes and engaged in their community
• Increase the number of residents in priority neighbourhoods leading their own community development initiatives

CAPACITY BUILDING

A Call for Proposals for CAPACITY BUILDING  will specifically target non-profit organizations whose core mission is the capacity building of service providers in the non-profit social services sector.

Increase the capacity of service delivery partners in the social services sector

All other service providers can include capacity-building activities directly into the proposal for funding of the related program or activity. These activities must be required in order to achieve the stated results (e.g., coordination of volunteers).

There will not be a Call for Proposals for 2011 funding in the area of:

FOCUS AREA: TURNING LIVES AROUND – Improve conditions for the chronically homeless, for youth facing addictions and for people and families dealing with poverty, mental illness and violence
• Decrease chronic homelessness through prevention and supportive housing
• Increase the accessibility and availability of support for youth experiencing problematic use of drugs and alcohol
• Assist people and families in crisis situations resulting from poverty, violence, mental health and family functioning issues

A community consultation involving volunteers and stakeholders will begin in September 2010 in order to identify priority goals for this focus area. As a result, programs currently funded to December 2010 under the former Individuals and Families in Need and Crisis impact area will continue to be funded at the same level through 2011(dependent upon campaign results and contingent on meeting requirements including the submission of program reports).

This focus area is intended to have a Call for Proposal in fall 2011 for the funding cycle 2012-2013.

If you are interested in attending one or several of the Call for Proposal Information Sessions,   register here. You are welcome to attend as many sessions as you like. However, space is limited, so please sign up as soon as possible.
