Direct Mail Assistant

Department: Strategic Giving Systems

Purpose of Volunteer Position:

Supporting and assisting the Manager of Direct Response by helping enhance donor loyalty and support.

Position Responsibilities:


With United Way Ottawa staff guidance and support complete the following tasks:
  • Make thank you phone calls to donors
  • Handwrite thank you notes to donors
  • Prepare 500-750 letters for mailing by stuffing envelopes and applying postage
  • Postal mailing, sorting, filing and organizing
  • Light office duties as needed

Time Commitment:

  • 2-4 hours every 2 weeks from January to August during business hours (8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
  • 2-4 hours every week from September to December during business hours (8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
  • Available for a one-hour organizational orientation session

Position Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School Diploma

Experience:

  • Experience preparing large mailings would be an asset
  • Experience making telephone calls to the public

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Computer skills are an asset
  • Bilingual in both official languages is an asset
