Position Status : Permanent, full-time

Position Summary and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Vice-President, Corporate Services and Chief Operating Officer, the Senior Director, Human Resources and Organizational Development is responsible for providing leadership to and overseeing all aspects of Human Resources and Organizational Development within the organization for both salaried and volunteer resources.  This includes high impact human resources strategies, systems and programs that support the vision and mission of United Way/Centraide Ottawa as well as position the organization as an Employer of Choice.  The areas falling within the scope of responsibilities include strategic planning and budgeting, recruitment and selection, orientation, payroll, compensation and benefits, policy development and implementation, performance management, learning and development, volunteer management, organizational development and health and safety.

Qualifications:

  • University Degree in a related field
  • At least 10 years progressive experience in Human Resources Management.
  • Experience in strategic planning and in leading the implementation of strategic initiatives.
  • Experience working with Senior Level Volunteers.
  • Sound knowledge and experience in employment laws and practices, compensation, benefits, recruitment, payroll, organizational planning, organization development, health and safety, performance management and learning and development.
  • Sound knowledge of volunteer management concepts, best practices and standards
  • Highly developed communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Demonstrated presentation, leadership, training and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills. Demonstrated effectiveness in relationship building.
  • Strong project management and time management skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement systems, plans, programs and procedures.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be a change leader.
  • Problem-solving expertise and ability to influence.
  • Initiative, flexibility and reliability.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking as well as attention to detail.
  • Enhanced ability to work in a team setting with a focus on clients.  Strong collaboration skills and capacity to work effectively with individuals at all levels within and outside the organization.
  • Excellent judgment, discretion and tact.
  • Must be adept in the use of Microsoft Office software.
